The key to a great cheesesteak sub is, of course, the meat. Traditionally, cheesesteaks are made with thinly sliced ribeye steak, but you can also use other cuts of beef. Some of the best meat substitutes are sirloin or flank steak. The meat is usually cooked on a griddle with onions and sometimes peppers until it is tender and juicy, but you can cook it on your stovetop or home grill also.
To take your homemade cheesesteak sub to the next level, you will want to choose the right bread and toppings. A soft, hoagie roll is the perfect bun for holding in all of the delicious ingredients, and you can add toppings like melted cheese, sautéed mushrooms, or even hot sauce for an extra twist.
Whether you are a seasoned cook or just starting out in the kitchen, homemade cheesesteak subs are a fun and delicious meal to make. So, grab the ingredients in the recipe below, and get to cooking!
