The secret to this incredible main course is the gravy. If you are intimidated with the idea of making your own gravy for a dish, rest assured, this recipe will build your confidence. The cooking hack we have used to simplify the sometimes tricky step of making gravy is to incorporate 1 pack of dried brown gravy mix. But don’t worry, this gravy is anything but ho-hum.

The gravy packet that you will incorporate is added to other savory ingredients to create a truly made from scratch rich gravy for your hamburger steaks. The gravy pack just helps to ensure the gravy is proportioned correctly.

If you don’t want to use eggs you can simply use smashed beans or even smashed avocado for creating a binder. But I will say it will affect the texture of your steak patties once you form and bake them up.

Should I add egg to hamburger patties?

To a classic hamburger patty, no you will not want to add eggs. But if you are going to make these steak patties then yes, add in the egg as it helps the ingredients stick together.

How do you keep hamburger steaks from falling apart?

Making sure when you form the patties you help to press the meat together with your hands. Work the meat a bit to make sure it creates a nice round patty that is firm. Now don’t press too hard as it can make the patty dense and heavy once it is cooked.

How to store Hamburger Steak Patties?

Place the patties with the gravy in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. I prefer to use glass containers as it helps to prevent other odors to soak into the meat and gravy.

You can also freeze the leftovers if you do not want to eat right away. Just place in a freezer container and freeze for 1-2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before you reheat.

How to reheat Hamburger Steak Patties?

The microwave will take just a minute or two to reheat. Or you could go the other route and warm it up in a skillet. If so you might have to add a little extra stock if you find the gravy is a bit too thick.

Heat on low or it can burn the gravy to the pan.

How much does Hamburger Steak Patties last on the fridge?

Steak patties with gravy can store for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. Always use your best judgement in terms of if you need to throw it out or not.

Can I make ahead Hamburger Steak Patties?

You can form the patties up to 12 hours in advance. Then when you get home toss them in a skillet and pan fry them up.

If you want to make the whole dish in advance go right ahead. Then warm it up as you wish to enjoy for meals through the week or an easy dinner for the week.
