Why do I love Oven Baked Potato Wedges?

  • Easy to make
  • Pantry ready supplies
  • Alternative baking options
  • Alternative seasoning options
  • Kid-friendly

How long should wedges be in the oven for?

Depending on the thickness of the wedge and your ovens settings, 30 minutes on each side for a total of 1 hour baking time. Be sure to check the potato at 20 minutes to see if it may be ready to turn and another 20 minutes after they have been turned.

Why are my potato wedges not crispy?

There may be a few factors for wedges not being crispy.

  • Not using a dark non-stick baking sheet
  • Lining the baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  • Not coating the wedges in enough oil
  • Not coating all of the wedges

Do you soak potatoes before baking?

Yes, soaking the potatoes before baking removes excess starch. This reduces the amount of sticking when baking the wedges.

Do baked potatoes cook faster with or without aluminum foil?

Aluminum foil helps keep baked potatoes at a constant temperature when baking. Depending on the oven, this can decrease the baking time.

How to serve Oven Baked Potato Wedges?

Oven-baked potato wedges can be served with a variety of sauces. Don’t be afraid to try different ones depending on what protein you have with them. Some dipping sauce ideas are:

  • Ketchup (regular or spicy) Try this recipe for spicy ketchup
  • Ranch Dressing (plain or mixed with taco seasoning or avocado)
  • Spicy or Lemon Herb Aioli
  • Flavored Mustards
  • Chipotle, ketchup, and mayonnaise mixture
  • Parmesan and Fresh Parsley sprinkled as soon as they are removed from the oven – this one is not a sauce, but it is so good you’ll want to give it a try!

Tips:

  • Soak potatoes in water which reduces the amount of starch and lessens the chance of sticking.
  • Make sure to thoroughly toss the wedges in oil for even distribution on each wedge.
  • Turn wedges halfway through cooking time to brown both sides.
  • Use a dark non-stick baking pan rather than lining one for crispier wedges.
  • For even crispier wedges, broil for a minute or two after baking.
  • Always lay wedges in a single layer on the baking sheet and avoid overlapping.

Variations:

  • Potato wedges can be made the same way but served with so many different dipping sauces that they will taste different every time you serve them or set out different ones to suit different tastes.
  • Changing seasonings can change the entire taste of the wedge. Add some taco seasoning and serve with a salsa ranch sauce for a Mexican-flavored wedge.
  • Adding Italian seasonings and sprinkling with parmesan cheese and oregano or basil just after removing from the oven will inspire an Italian flair!
  • Top wedges with any assortment of toppings to make them into wedge nachos and you have a fabulous snack, appetizer, or one-pan meal.

How to store Oven Baked Potato Wedges?

Once the potato wedges have been cooled, place them in an air-tight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

After cooling completely, place the wedges in foil pouches and place them in an air-tight container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

How to reheat Oven Baked Potato Wedges?

Whether wedges have been frozen or stored in the refrigerator, be sure to reheat them in the oven or air fryer to maintain a crispy texture. They could be tossed lightly with a little olive oil before baking if desired and reheat at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until they are heated through. If putting anything on the wedges, wait until they are reheated before doing so.

Can I make ahead Oven Baked Potato Wedges?

Because potatoes turn brown after pealing or cutting, these are not a great make ahead item. However, if you place them in a bowl of water, you can make them up to a half an hour ahead without any problems since soaking ahead of time helps with releasing some of the starch in the potato.
